State of the Map World is the annual event for all mappers and OpenStreetMap users. The program consists of talks, workshops, discussion rounds and more. HeiGIT is taking part with three different contributions.
ORS-Tools – Beginner-friendly Mobility Analysis with OpenStreetMap and openrouteservice in QGIS – Jakob Schnell, Till Frankenbach, Marin Reifer
Friday, 11:30 (60 minutes (plus Q&A)); Room: Guiting-guiting
This hands-on workshop shows how to use OpenStreetMao data and openrouteservice in QGIS without servers, sign-ups or coding. Participants will learn how OSM becomes a routable network, use the ORSTools plugin with the public API, and complete exercises like routing around Manila, mapping hospital service areas, and optimizing medicine deliveries. Participants will walk away with a reusable QGIS project, a tutorial, and the confidence and knowledge to repeat the workflow anywhere, anytime.
Where are we heading? The current state of OpenStreetMap in numbers – Benjamin Herfort
Friday, 17:30 (20 minutes (plus Q&A)); Room: Mayon
This talk reflects on 20 years of OpenStreetMap, summarizing OSM’s evolution with maps and meaningful numbers. We look at the size of the active community, analyse regional differences in mapping and look at the impact of mobile OSM editors such as StreetComplete and Every Door. Let’s also take a brief look at humanitarian mapping, corporate mapping and the impact of AI-generated data and Street View Imagery on OSM’s future.
We are looking forward to interesting discussions and new inputs.
