The Macro-Mapathon Regional Latin America 2026 is an online event where communities, universities, youth groups, disaster risk management teams, and volunteers from across Latin America work together to improve open map data. Building on several years of national anticipatory mapathons, this regional initiative aims to update OpenStreetMap in areas that are often missing or underrepresented in official maps, including rural areas, vulnerable neighborhoods, watersheds, roads, buildings, and key infrastructure.

Participants from Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and beyond will contribute by mapping with satellite imagery, Earth observation data, and local knowledge. The event highlights how open geographic data can strengthen early warning systems, humanitarian response, and local decision-making, helping communities become more visible, prepared, and resilient.
