Beginning May 20, 2023, Professor Wenwen Li from the Arizona State University (ASU) will teach at the Heidelberg University for two months. Professor Li received her PhD in Earth System and Geoinformation Science from the George Mason University in 2010 and her habilitation from the ASU in 2021. Her research in GIScience focuses primarily on the development of new spatial analysis methods and Cyberinfrastructure Solutions.
In recent years, Professor Li has pioneered the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), enabled its transdisciplinary extension to the world of geospatial data, and made a name for herself in the field of GIScience with her expertise, multiple projects, grants, and awards. She is currently leading several US National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded research projects to use AI to monitor changes in our natural environment and to better understand climate change and its impacts in different parts of the world.
Her visiting professorship in Heidelberg is funded by the Max Kade Foundation to foster U.S.-German academic exchange. She will organize several courses at the Department of Geography.
Professor Li will hold the following events during the 2023 summer semester:
- Geospatial Artificial Intelligence: Methods and Applications
This course will have its first session on June 14th 2023 from 13:00 to 15:00 at Berliner Straße 48, HS. The event is intended for bachelor and master students.
The prerequisite for participation for Bachelor students is the passed module MG3 “Methods in Geography III: Geographic Information Systems”, as well as basic knowledge in Python.
The course can be credited as following:
Bachelor of Science – Applied Geoinformatics
Master of Science – Research Geoinformatics: Subject Content Geoinformatics
Registration is possible until 09.06.2023 via heiCO.
More information can be found here: Geospatial Artificial Intelligence: Methods and Applications
- The Science of GeoAI: Precidtability, Explainability, and Reproducibility
This guest lecture will take place as part of the GIScience Colloquium on June 12th 2023 at 10:15 at the Department of Geography (INF 348), Room 004 (EG).
We are very happy to welcome Professor Li at Heidelberg University!
