Dear Students,
we at HeiGIT are currently looking for a student assistant to help our work in the climate action project, where we provide indicators to support active members in society who influence decision makers to take concrete actions on the climate crisis. We develop these indicators on different topics in high spatial resolution together with our partners, providing actionable insights through data, maps, and reports. Our results are shared and displayed via a dashboard, which integrates diverse data sources, including open geoinformation like OpenStreetMap (OSM), openrouteservice (ORS), satellite data, and scientific research, to offer comprehensive and reliable insights for decision-makers. Your tasks will mostly include
- (literature) research related to climate action topics, which is needed for designing the indicators
- development and coding of high-resolution spatial indicators related to climate topics together with members of the Climate Action team in Python
The language will mostly be English, in exceptional cases German.
Expertise:
- studies geography, informatics (environmental) physics, ecology or another natural science
- has some experience in Python coding and / or in GIS
- is interested in research tasks.
Skills in machine learning techniques would be a plus.
