Danielle Gatland from HeiGIT will present her work on “hiBike: Using open data to assess cycling infrastructure and facilitate traffic transition” at the upcoming workshop. Her talk will be part of Session 3: New Data Frontiers for Cycling Analysis (chair: Silke), focusing on how open data can be used to evaluate and improve cycling conditions, ultimately supporting a shift toward more sustainable urban mobility.

The workshop brings together researchers and advocates to explore how data can shape the future of cycling in cities. Since financial and space resources are often limited, expanding cycling infrastructure means making tough choices that need solid evidence. By drawing on both established and new data sources, such as GPS tracking, mobile sensors, and crowdsourcing, the event provides an opportunity to discuss how current research can inform policy, planning, and traffic management.

Throughout the day, sessions will cover topics including measuring cycling activity, translating research into policy, and exploring new data frontiers for cycling analysis. In Danielle’s session, Thomas Kjær Rasmussen (Technical University of Denmark) will also present “Understanding bicyclist route choice behaviour from large-scale trajectory data”, followed by an open discussion on future directions in cycling data research.
