FOSS4G conference 2023

This years FOSS4G conference will take place from 26 June – 2 July 2023 in Prizren, Kosovo. And HeiGIT will participate again!

Since 2006 FOSS4G, the largest global gathering for geospatial software, is organized by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). One week, from 26 June – 2 July there will be workshops hold, presentations, discussions, cooperation and developing of geospatial tools and softwares.

Chrisitina Ludwig and Marcel Reinmuth from HeiGIT will also join the event. Together they will lead a workshop about How to use openrouteservice in your GIS workflows: The case of disaster management on 27 June 09:00–13:00 (Europe/Tirane), UBT B / N 014 – First Floor.

Moreover, Chrinstina Ludwig will give a presentation about Traffic Speed Modelling to Improve Travel Time Estimation in openrouteservice. Her talk will be based on a paper by Ludwig et al. and concentrate on the method used in the paper to model traffic speed by hour of day at a street level using open data from
OSM, Twitter and population data. This modelled traffic speed data was then integrated into the openrouteservice to improve travel time estimation in route planning. Machine learning models were trained with traffic speed data from Uber Movements as refernce data for ten
cities worldwide. Subsequently the potential of different indicators based on e.g. geolocation and
timestamp of Twitter data were evaluated to improve prediction accuracy. Chrinstina Ludwig will talk more about this topic and the results obtained on 28 June 13:30–14:00 (Europe/Tirane), Room 4 / Last Floor Red Building.

Don´t miss to participate!
