What We Offer

Transforming Geospatial Data Into Actionable Solutions

01

Actionable Data

We analyze and enrich existing open spatial data, while generating new data products to deliver climate indicators for sustainable urban planning and support emergency response during disasters, among other applications.

02

Data Insights

We provide tools for the analysis, monitoring and visualization of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. This information helps organizations assess whether OSM meets their specific requirements.

03

Routing services and mobility analysis

We enhance OSM road data to power domain-specific routing solutions and provide software for mobility analyses.

04

Knowledge Exchange

We offer GIS training and data literacy workshops to build capacity and facilitate effective knowledge transfer.

05

Community-Driven Solutions

We integrate citizen-generated data and local feedback into our analysis and data products, ensuring that our solutions reflect real-world experiences and address local needs effectively.

Our Collaborative Approach

We believe that collaboration is essential for creating sustainable and impactful geospatial solutions. By working closely with humanitarian organizations, climate action groups, research institutions and decision-makers, we gain valuable insights into their challenges. This collaborative approach enables us to tailor our technologies and methodologies to meet the unique needs of our partners.

Who We Work With

Selected Partnerships

Missing Maps

Missing Maps

Missing Maps is an initiative led by humanitarian organizations to fill critical gaps in OpenStreetMap (OSM) by mapping areas vulnerable to natural disasters and other threats, even before emergencies strike. This geospatial data is vital for implementing preventive measures and supports both local and international relief efforts during crises.

Since 2015, HeiGIT has supported the Missing Maps project by monitoring and visualizing its progress and impact. Using data from the HOT Tasking Manager and our ohsome framework, we provide insights into the initiative’s achievements.

German Red Cross

German Red Cross

The partnership between the German Red Cross (GRC) and HeiGIT enables us to develop geoinformatic data products, methods and technology to support the humanitarian activities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Insights from this collaboration also enhance HeiGIT’s work. Through this partnership, and with funding from the Klaus Tschira Foundation, a position for geoinformatics was established within the International Cooperation team of the GRC.

Humanitarian Open Street Map

Humanitarian Open Street Map (HOT)

Since 2017, HeiGIT has been collaborating with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), an international organization focused on humanitarian action and community development through open mapping. Together, we work on initiatives such as Missing Maps, disaster mapping, and GIS solutions for humanitarian assistance, while also contributing to teaching, outreach, and the development of new technologies.

BKG

Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG)

Since 2017, HeiGIT has partnered with the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG), the central service provider for topographic data, cartography, and geodetic reference systems for the German federal government. Through this collaboration, we provide worldwide routing services and advanced mobility analysis using openrouteservice (ORS). This includes the development of fast-isochrones and statistical traffic analysis. Our partnership also includes joint research initiatives, further strengthening BKG’s geospatial analysis and routing capabilities.
