Radlobby Herbstakademie 2026 brings together cycling advocates and professionals to exchange knowledge, discuss current developments, and explore practical approaches to improving cycling conditions. HeiGIT will contribute with a talk by Kirsten von Elverfeldt on hiBike, a Bikeability Index developed together with Radlobby to assess how bike-friendly cities, municipalities, and individual streets are.
Talk: The Bikeability Index hiBike: When Radlobby Know-How and GIS Expertise Come Together
Presenter: Kirsten von Elverfeldt
Since 2024, HeiGIT (Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology) has been developing the Bikeability Index hiBike together with Radlobby: data and maps that show how bike-friendly cities, municipalities, and individual streets are or are not. The aim is to collect precisely the information that is currently neither available comprehensively nor at street level, and to process it in a way that makes it directly useful for local Radlobby work. The talk will show how the tool works. Together with participants, the session will explore what it can offer Radlobby groups and what is still needed. Example results for Vienna-Leopoldstadt can be viewed in the Climate Action Navigator.
