HeiGIT gGmbH at Heidelberg University is a research-oriented, non-profit company aiming to improve the transfer of knowledge and technology from basic research into practice on the basis of innovative geoinformation technologies. IT Systems Engineer (m,w,d)
to work in our Tech Ops team in Heidelberg, starting as soon as possible (m,f,d, up to 100%, permanent).
The diverse tasks that await you include

- Provide advice and support to all HeiGIT teams in running services professionally and using a diverse set of infrastructure (i.e. virtual machines, standalone servers, HPC clusters, cloud infrastructure, databases)
- Administrate Linux servers

- Configure, implement and maintain central services (i.e. GitLab, RocketChat, Confluence, data lake, easy to use PaaS)
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of monitoring and backup strategies
- Contributing to a green and sustainable computing strategy
- Develop and implement a management solution for Linux clients
Your Profile
-
- A university degree (or equivalent) in computer science or a related field or
- Several years of work experience in IT system administration, ideally in a modern environment
- Proficient in managing Linux servers (ideally Ubuntu)
- Experience with technologies such as:

- Monitoring and analytics (Grafana, Prometheus, Graylog)
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Scripting languages (Ansible, Bash, Python)
- Web server/web services (Apache, nginx)
- Using cloud infrastructures (openstack, vSphere)
- Proficient in English and German (spoken and written)
- Initiative, independent working style and flexibility in dealing with new projects and information
- A good feel for long established and upcoming tools and working methods in the DevOps and server related fields
- A sense of team spirit, responsibility and commitment
