HeiGIT gGmbH is a non-profit start-up aiming at technology transfer and applied research in the area of geoinformatics, especially in areas such as humanitarian aid or other non-profit goals for the benefit of society and the environment. To this end, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Software Engineer in the field of OSM Routing Services (Java Backend).
Software Engineer OSM Routing Services
Depending on your experience,
your tasks within the field of Route Planning & Smart Mobility are related to at least one of the following areas:
- Agile development of innovative routing services, algorithms and extensions for the well-known open source project http://openrouteservice.org (Java)
- Extension of the global services infrastructure of various location-based services using OSM
- Development of highly performant algorithms, methods and GI web services, especially for the analysis and data enrichment of heterogeneous global geodata sets
As a member of a self-organizing team, you’ll have a large influence on both how you work and what you work on. Close collaboration and communication with your team members, ORS stakeholders and users is your favorite way of working. Your in-depth knowledge of your favourite language and tools will be valued, but you’ll also be expected to help with whatever the team needs to work towards its goal.
Your Expertise
- A highly-motivated backend developer with solid experience in Java and web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Familiarity with agile development practices like test-driven development, continuous integration, pair-programming etc. is beneficial.
- An above-average university degree in one of the subjects such as Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics or similar.
- German language skills preferred, but English only possible.
Since the team’s responsibilities comprise quite a few tools and services, you should be excited, to familiarize yourselves with all the relevant technologies if needed. Current technologies include, but are not limited to Java, Spring Boot, REST, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Vue.js, Docker, Python, Git and WordPress. The willingness to learn should also comprise the openrouteservices‘ problem domain which is routing, OpenStreetMap data and geographic information systems (GIS) in general.
